About the Wuthering Waves Pull Calculator

Wuthering Waves uses a soft-pity system: 5★ probability is 0.8% base but ramps up sharply around pull 66, with hard pity at 80. The featured Resonator banner uses a 50/50 mechanic — if you lose the 50/50, the next 5★ is guaranteed to be the featured character. The weapon banner has no 50/50: the featured weapon is always 100% on every 5★.

How the math works

We simulate the probability distribution starting from your current pity, using the published soft-pity ramp (probability rises from 0.8% to roughly 75% between pull 66 and 80). For multi-copy targets, we compound the expected pull count using the geometric/negative-binomial distribution. The 50/50 result is averaged in for the character banner.

When to save Astrites vs spend now

The safest F2P strategy is keeping a permanent reserve of 80 pulls — that's 12,800 Astrites. This covers the worst-case 50/50 loss on the character banner: 80 pulls to lose, 80 more to guaranteed. With this reserve untouched, you can pull any urgent character without missing them. Anything above 80 pulls is "spendable budget" for the current banner.

Skip the current banner if any of these are true: you're below the 80-pull reserve, the character is sub-DPS or healer that doesn't justify the 12,800-Astrite worst case, or your existing main DPS character is already at S0 with their signature. Conversely, pull immediately if the character is your archetype gap (no Spectro DPS yet, for example), the rerun is far away (typically 4–6 months between reruns), or you're in 50/50 won state from a previous loss.

5 common mistakes when planning pulls

Most F2P pull regrets come from these five mistakes. Each one looks small in isolation but compounds across patches into a noticeably weaker account.

1. Pulling past the 80-pull safety reserve. If you have 75 pulls saved and the new character looks good, the trap is "I'll just go in with what I have." If you hit a 50/50 loss at 60 pulls, you've now spent your reserve and can't catch the next character. Always keep 80 pulls untouched until the second guaranteed copy.

2. Forgetting the 50/50 mechanic on the character banner. The featured character is only 50% probability per 5★ pull. The other 50% is a random standard 5★ (Calcharo, Lingyang, Verina, or Encore). A "guaranteed" featured character actually takes up to 160 pulls (80 to lose + 80 to win) — budget for this worst case, not the expected case.

3. Pulling for a character without their signature weapon. If you can't also afford the signature weapon, the character will operate at 80–85% of intended power. Often it's better to skip the character entirely and save the full 24,000+ Astrites for the next character + weapon pair you want both of.

4. Underestimating event Astrite income. Major events award 1,200–2,400 Astrites depending on completion. Login rewards add 600 per patch. Don't include these in your "current Astrite" count when calculating; budget them as bonus income that materializes during the banner, not before.

5. Skipping the weapon banner because "I can't afford it." The weapon banner has no 50/50 — 80 pulls guarantees the featured weapon. If your main DPS has been your top damage dealer for the entire patch and you have 80+ pulls free of the character reserve, the weapon banner is the highest-impact upgrade you can buy.

Frequently asked questions

How many Astrites does an F2P player earn per patch?

Roughly 12,000–16,000 Astrites per 6-week patch for an active F2P player. This breaks down to about 60–80 per day from dailies, plus 2,000–3,000 from events, 600 from login rewards, and 1,500–2,500 from new exploration content. That's 75–100 pulls per patch — enough for one guaranteed character if you started the patch with 0 saved, or one character plus weapon if you carry over 80 pulls reserve.

When does soft pity kick in?

Soft pity in Wuthering Waves begins around pull 66 and ramps to roughly 75% probability by pull 80. About 75% of all 5★ pulls happen in this 66–80 window. Pulls 1–65 use the base 0.8% probability, where 5★s are rare. This calculator factors the soft-pity ramp into the expected pull count, so the number it gives you is the true average — not the optimistic base-rate estimate.

Should I use Tides (the pre-paid pull currency) or Astrites?

For F2P, you'll almost always use Astrites because that's what dailies and events give you. Tides are converted from Astrites at a 160:1 ratio — there's no difference in cost. For low spenders who buy the monthly pass, the pass gives 90 Tides directly plus Astrites; same effective rate. The only practical difference is that Tides cannot be refunded, while Astrites can be converted to other resources in emergencies.

Is the character banner or weapon banner better value?

Character banner is better value for new players and account builders — characters open new playstyles, fill team gaps, and have lasting value across patches. Weapon banner is better value for established players who already have all wanted DPS at S0 — the weapon is a flat 25–35% damage upgrade with no 50/50 risk. Rule of thumb: pull characters until you have all wanted DPS at S0, then start using weapon banners on your most-played main DPS.

Astrite economy reference

  • 1 pull = 160 Astrites (or 1 Tide directly)
  • F2P daily average: ~60–80 Astrites from dailies, events, and exploration
  • Per patch (6 weeks): ~12,000–16,000 Astrites for a F2P player = 75–100 pulls
  • Soft pity hits: ~75% of 5★s come between pull 66 and 80

Pulling tips

  • If you are at 60+ pity, push to soft pity now even if you don't want the current banner — guaranteed 5★s carry over.
  • Never pull a weapon banner unless you have at least 80 Forging Tides saved. The hard pity is your guarantee.
  • For S6 (max chain) targets, expect 480–600 pulls including weapon. Plan 2–3 patches of saving.
