Wuthering Waves Beginner's Guide 2026: First 30 Days Roadmap

Wuthering Waves rewards players who plan their first 30 days carefully. Burn through pulls on the wrong banner, level the wrong character, or waste Waveplate on bad content — and you'll set yourself back weeks. This guide is the roadmap we wish we had on day 1.

Pair this guide with our Pull Calculator for banner planning and the Echo Scorer when your first 4-COST echoes start dropping around UL 30.

Day 1-3: Tutorial & First Pulls

Don't pull on the standard banner yet

The game gives you a Beginner's Choice selector after a few hours: pick one 5-star Resonator from the standard pool. Always pick a DPS. Verina is tempting (she's the best universal support) but you'll get her from limited beginner pulls anyway. Picks ranked:

  1. Encore — Strong Fusion DPS, easy to gear, F2P-friendly
  2. Calcharo — Electro Liberation DPS, fun rotation
  3. Jiyan — Aero Heavy DPS, still solid in 2026
  4. Lingyang — Glacio DPS, weaker than alternatives but works
  5. Verina/Yangyang/Yuanwu — pick only if you really love the design

Use the Beginner's Banner first

Your first 50 pulls on the Beginner Banner are 20% off (cost 8 Tides each instead of 10). You're guaranteed a 5-star within 50 pulls. Do these before touching limited banners — it's free value.

Day 4-7: First Banner Pull Decision

By now you'll have ~50-80 Tides of currency from story rewards and exploration. Do not pull on a limited character banner yet. Here's why:

  • You have no idea which character fits your playstyle
  • You don't have echoes to build them
  • Wait for the next character banner — usually a stronger meta unit is coming

Read our 2026 pull strategy to understand banner economy before committing. Save until you have at least 90 Astrites' worth of pulls (~14,400 Astrites).

Day 7-14: Union Level Push

Your single biggest goal week 1-2 is Union Level (UL) 30. Until UL 30:

  • Story rewards are massive (each chapter completion = 200-500 Astrites)
  • SOL3 unlocks (the open world progression)
  • Echo drops cap at 3-cost (4-cost unlocks at UL 27+)

How to push UL fast:

  1. Main story missions — biggest XP source
  2. Region quests for each map — secondary XP and Astrites
  3. SOL3 Activity (data tower) — daily quests, modest XP
  4. Don't grind echoes yet (return at UL 30+)

Day 14-21: First Real Build

At UL 27 you unlock 4-COST echoes. Now it's time to actually build your DPS character.

Materials checklist

Use the Material Planner to calculate exactly what you need, but in general:

  • Character ascension: 2 boss drops + region-specific specialty + dye
  • Weapon ascension: weapon material drops from Waveplate domain
  • Forte skill upgrade: forgery domain drops + boss drops + Shell Credit

Echo build basics

Slot layout per character:

  • 1× 4-COST (the "main" echo with biggest stat)
  • 2× 3-COST
  • 2× 1-COST

For main stat selection see the Echo Main Stats Guide. For Sonata set choice see Sonata Set Tier List. Don't level any echo past +10 until you've checked it with the Echo Scorer.

Got your first 4-COST echo? Score it with Echo Scorer before spending Tuners.

Day 21-30: Endgame Prep

At UL 30+ Tower of Adversity (TOA) opens. This is the main endgame content with cycle rewards. To clear TOA Stable Zone you need:

  • 1 main DPS at level 70+, signature/standard 5-star weapon ascended
  • 1 support/sub-DPS at level 60+
  • 1 healer at level 60+
  • Each character with full 5-piece Sonata set, all 5 echoes +20 minimum

Best F2P team comps

Encore-based Fusion team (no limited pulls needed)

  • Encore (Fusion DPS) + Sanhua (Sub-DPS) + Verina (Healer)
  • Cost: 0 limited pulls, all from standard or free

Calcharo Electro team

  • Calcharo (DPS) + Mortefi (Heavy Sub-DPS) + Verina (Healer)
  • Cost: 0-50 limited pulls (Mortefi is 4-star)

Top 10 Beginner Mistakes

  1. Spending Astrites on the standard banner. Always do limited character banner first (or Beginner Banner).
  2. Leveling 5 characters at once. Pick ONE DPS to focus until they're TOA-ready.
  3. Leveling echoes that don't fit the role. Use the Echo Scorer at +5 to decide if it's worth investing.
  4. Wasting Waveplate before UL 30. Save your Waveplate for boss drops after you've unlocked everything.
  5. Skipping the Beginner Banner. 20% discount + guaranteed 5-star within 50 = best value in the game.
  6. Pulling on weapon banner before owning the character. Weapon banner is high-cost; only pull after S0 character is secured.
  7. Ignoring 4-star characters. Sanhua, Mortefi, Baizhi are top-tier supports.
  8. Not doing the SOL3 weekly. 30+ pulls per week worth of materials/Astrites.
  9. Picking Verina from Beginner's Choice. She's strong but you'll get a healer from limited pulls anyway.
  10. Skipping story for XP grind. Story is the fastest UL XP plus all the Astrites are gated behind chapter completion.

What to save Astrites for

Look at the 2026 tier list for current meta. As of June 2026 (3.4 Cyberpunk: Edgerunners collab), priority saves for new players:

  1. Lucy (Phase 1, 06-08 — limited 5★ Spectro Heavy-Attack DPS, headline of the collab)
  2. Lucilla (Phase 2, 06-13 — limited 5★ Glacio Rectifier DPS)
  3. Shorekeeper when she reruns — best support, universal
  4. Yinlin rerun — universal Sub-DPS

Free 5★ Rebecca is gifted via the Instant Flashlight event during Phase 1 — claim her even if you skip every banner.

Daily routine (15-20 min)

  1. Login (claim daily, weekly login rewards)
  2. 3 SOL3 daily activities (XP + Astrites)
  3. Spend 240 Waveplate on priority resource (boss drops > weapon mats > echo XP)
  4. Run one echo farming loop (see Echo Farming Routes)
  5. Weekly bosses (Sunday cycle reset)
