Wuthering Waves Pull Strategy 2026: How Many Astrites for Guaranteed 5★
If you're playing Wuthering Waves seriously, every Astrite is a decision. This guide gives you the math, the patch cycle structure, and clear rules for when to pull and when to skip — whether you're full F2P or spending the monthly battle pass.
Use this with the Pull Calculator to plug in your actual numbers; the guide gives you the framework.
The numbers that matter
- 1 pull = 160 Astrites (or 1 Tide directly)
- Soft pity: rate starts ramping at pull 66, hits ~75% by pull 79
- Hard pity: guaranteed 5★ at pull 80
- 50/50 on Resonator banner: lose once, next 5★ guaranteed featured
- Weapon banner: no 50/50, featured weapon is 100% — but hard pity is also 80
Expected pulls per Resonator (from pity 0)
| Goal | Average pulls | 90% confidence | Worst case |
|---|---|---|---|
| S0 (1 copy, not guaranteed) | ~107 | ~140 | 160 |
| S0 (1 copy, guaranteed) | ~71 | ~80 | 80 |
| Featured weapon (1 copy) | ~71 | ~80 | 80 |
| S1 + weapon (full S0R1) | ~178 | ~220 | 240 |
| S6 + weapon (max chain) | ~534 | ~620 | 720 |
Astrite income per patch
A Wuthering Waves patch is 6 weeks (42 days). For an active player who clears daily Activity, weekly Tower of Adversity, events, and codes:
| Source | Astrites/patch | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Daily Activity (60 × 42) | 2,520 | Soft cap; some days you get more from quests. |
| Tower of Adversity | ~1,500 | Weekly reset; assumes you clear all hazard floors. |
| Patch events | ~3,000–4,500 | Varies; new region patches give more. |
| Exploration / chests | 1,500–3,000 | Higher on patches with new regions. |
| Codes / livestream | ~600 | Three livestream codes + ad-hoc. |
| Pioneer/Lumiere shop, mail | ~800 | Misc. |
| F2P total | ~10,000–13,000 | ~60–80 pulls/patch |
| + Monthly Pass (×1.5) | +5,400 | Massively improves per-Astrite value. |
| + Battle Pass | +6,720 | 40 Tides + Astrites combined. |
| Low spender total | ~22,000–25,000 | ~140–155 pulls/patch |
The skip-or-pull decision
This is the most-asked question. Use this decision tree.
Step 1: Do you want the character mechanically?
"Mechanically" means: do you want to play them, or fit them into a real team. Pulling for "completion" or because someone is hyped on Reddit is how F2P accounts go broke. If the answer is "I don't really know what they do" — skip.
Step 2: How much do you currently have saved?
- 140+ pulls saved (incl. tides): Safe to pull S0. Worst case is hard pity twice = 160 pulls, and the 90th-percentile case is ~140.
- 80–140 pulls: Risky for S0. You're banking on not losing 50/50 or hitting soft pity early. Run it through the calculator.
- Under 80 pulls: Skip unless you are guaranteed (lost previous 50/50). Even then it's tight.
Step 3: What's the rerun outlook?
Standard banners rerun roughly every 8–12 months. If you can name three other Resonators in the rerun queue ahead of this one (because they haven't rerun yet either), you can wait. If this character is in a niche role with no comparable alternative, the urgency is higher.
The save-up framework
The cleanest F2P approach is the "3-banner rule": never pull on consecutive banners. Save through one banner, pull on the next, save through the one after.
At ~10–13k Astrites/patch and 2 banners per patch, this means:
- You accumulate ~20–26k Astrites over 2 patches (= 1 "save cycle")
- That's 125–160 pulls — enough to comfortably get S0 even on a 50/50 loss
- You're effectively pulling for ~3 Resonators per year
For monthly pass spenders, the cycle compresses: every patch you can pull one Resonator comfortably, with leftover for the next banner.
Weapon banner: skip by default
The Wuthering Waves weapon banner is friendlier than most gachas because there is no 50/50 — you always get the featured weapon. But "friendly" is relative: you're still spending 70–80 pulls (11,200–12,800 Astrites) on a piece of gear that's typically a 5–15% damage upgrade over your best 4★ option.
Pull weapons only when:
- The character you S0'd is a clear long-term main DPS, AND
- Their signature weapon has unique mechanics not available on 4★s (passive stacks, niche conditional), AND
- You finished pulling for them with 70+ Astrites + Tides remaining
Otherwise: skip and run the best 4★ weapon. Most 5★ signatures are at most 10% ahead.
The 50/50 mental model
Half of Resonator pulls will technically "lose" the 50/50 the first time. That's not bad luck — that's the system working as designed. Plan for it: assume you will lose 50/50 every time you start fresh, and treat winning it as a bonus.
Practical implication: Always have at least 140 pulls saved before opening a banner you really want, unless you start guaranteed. 80 pulls is not enough for a 50/50 banner — that's only the hard pity for the first 5★, which is then a coin flip.
Standard banner: the slow burn
The standard banner is the worst per-pull value but the highest variety. Use it only with your Beginner Tides and the small trickle of Radiant Tides you earn over time. Don't dump saved pulls into standard — the EV per pull is much lower than a featured banner.
Common F2P mistakes
- Pulling at 0 pity for "fun". Every 10 pulls you waste at 0 pity is essentially 10 pulls you don't get to apply toward soft pity later. Pity carries over, so this is wasteful unless you have overflow Astrites.
- Pulling weapon when you can't afford a backup 4★ refinement. 5★ weapon at R1 vs. 4★ weapon at R5 is often closer than people think.
- Spending Beginner Tides on featured banner. Beginner Tides should be used on the Beginner Banner (40% discount) only.
- Ignoring the standard 5★ selector. New accounts get one free standard 5★ via the selector — pick a Resonator you'll actually use, ideally one missing from your roster's element coverage.
